Timpanogos Youth Choirs is the longest continually running community performing arts organization in American Fork, Utah, enriching the lives of young singers since 1987 under the guidance of dedicated music educators.
Open to youth in grades 2–12, the choirs believe every child can become a confident musician with the right support, offering meaningful musical and personal growth opportunities.
The ensemble has performed throughout the Wasatch Front and beyond, including major community celebrations, international festivals, and world premiere performances of new choral works.
Give your child a joyful and engaging introduction to music through singing, movement, and play in Young Singers, part of the Timp Arts Choirs program. Designed specifically for ages 5-8, this class nurtures early musicianship in a fun, developmentally appropriate environment grounded in the principles of Kodály-inspired learning.
Students will build a strong musical foundation through activities that feel like play but develop real skills, including:
- Singing in tune with age-appropriate folk songs, rounds, and games
- Developing steady beat and rhythmic accuracy through movement and percussion
- Learning to hear, echo, and understand musical patterns (aural skills)
- Exploring solfège (do, re, mi…) to strengthen pitch recognition and sight-singing readiness
- Practicing healthy, natural vocal technique through playful vocal exercises
- Building confidence, focus, and joyful ensemble participation
This is a place where children learn music the way they learn language—by listening, imitating, moving, and gradually building understanding from experience.

Timpanogos Youth Choir is a welcoming ensemble for treble singers ages 9–16 who love to sing, learn, and perform. Through engaging rehearsals and exciting performance opportunities, students develop musical skills, vocal confidence, and lasting friendships while experiencing the joy of making music together.
Singers explore a wide variety of repertoire, including folk songs, multicultural music, holiday favorites, and quality choral literature for young voices. Students perform unison songs, rounds, and two-part music while building the skills needed for successful ensemble singing.
In this Kodály-inspired learning environment, students will:
- Develop healthy vocal technique and beautiful tone
- Strengthen music reading and sight-singing skills through solfège
- Build rhythmic accuracy, musicianship, and listening skills
- Gain confidence performing independently and with others
- Learn teamwork, leadership, and artistic expression through ensemble singing
The choir’s season includes several exciting performances and projects, including community Christmas caroling, seasonal concerts, and a special spring music film project that allows singers to combine music-making with creative storytelling and art creation.
Whether your child is new to choir or already loves to sing, Timpanogos Youth Choir provides a fun, encouraging environment where young musicians can grow, create, and share their talents with the community.

Scholarships
The Timpanogos Youth Choirs are pleased to offer full need-based scholarships for our youth choir programs to families who qualify based on household income (see details below). Our mission is to ensure that every child who loves to sing has the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial circumstances.
Eligibility: Families with annual household incomes below the following amounts qualify for full tuition assistance:
2 people – $25,000
3 people – $30,000
4 people – $35,000
5 people – $40,000
6 people – $45,000
7 people – $50,000

Our Team
M. Ryan Taylor
Director & Conductor
M. Ryan Taylor is a seasoned choral conductor and vocal artist whose work blends expressive performance with a strong foundation in vocal pedagogy and music education. He holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Composition from BYU, having studied conducting with Ronald Staheli and Mack Wilberg. His choral compositions—available at CHOIRWORKS.COM—have been performed around the world and are shaped by his vocal training and extensive experience leading choirs of all ages and skill levels.
Mr. Taylor has served as the conductor of the American Fork Children’s Choir (now Timpanogos Youth Choirs) for ten years, during which he earned a three-year Kodály certification through the Intermuse program at Brigham Young University. Taylor has also served as associate conductor of the Timpanogos Chorale; conductor of the American Fork Hillcrest Stake Choir for seven years; director of the Phoenix Rising Chamber Choir; Voyces caroling choir; and led various congregational choirs over the past thirty-five years.
As a vocalist, he has performed with numerous skilled ensembles, including Cantorum, Canticum Lucis, Phoenix Rising Chamber Choir, Timpanogos Chorale, BYU Concert Choir, Chapman College Chamber Singers, St. Wilfred’s Episcopal Choir, St. James Episcopal Choir, Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Choir, Orange County Youth Choir, Orange County Honor Choir, FVHS Troubadours, and FVHS Concert Choir—experience that continues to inform his belief in the transformative power of choral singing.
Dr. Bryce Patterson
Accompanist
Dr. Bryce Patterson is a collaborative pianist who enjoys working closely with singers, instrumentalists, and ensembles in a wide variety of musical settings. He has accompanied community and university choirs in both rehearsals and performances, including recent work with the Avenues Choir and serving as a short-notice substitute accompanist for the Mapleton Chorale. He is especially valued for his musical sensitivity and flexibility in ensemble settings.
In addition to his work with choirs, Bryce has collaborated with instrumentalists on demanding repertoire and has extensive experience accompanying voice and instrumental studios from schools and groups all over the country.
His musical background includes advanced training in piano performance, and he remains active as both a performer and teacher. Alongside his collaborative work, he maintains a private piano studio, where he enjoys helping students of all ages develop strong technique, musical understanding, and a lasting appreciation for music.
